Is the Rust Still Coatable?

Surface staining and early coating breakdown can sometimes be prepared and protected. Perforation, deep pitting or widespread thinning changes the decision toward sheet repair or replacement.

Surface Rust or Lost Steel? The property-specific scope should answer that question before procurement.

Can you paint directly over rust?

Not as a sound general approach. Corrosion products, loose coating and contamination require condition-led preparation before a compatible primer and finish are considered.

Will a protective coating stop all leaks?

No. Leaks can involve holes, laps, fixings, flashings or drainage. Those defects require diagnosis and repair beyond applying a topcoat.

When should rusty sheets be replaced?

Perforation, deep pitting, broad material loss or inability to prepare a stable substrate can make sheet work more proportionate.

What is a rust-inhibiting primer?

It is a compatible primer selected to support corrosion control on properly prepared metal. It is one part of a system, not a cure for severe material loss.

Can only the rusty area be coated?

Local treatment may be possible, but boundaries, colour, adhesion and the condition of surrounding coating influence whether a contained scope is practical.

Do old coatings need removal?

Loose, failing or incompatible layers must not be buried. The extent of removal follows inspection and preparation trials.

How long will the coating last?

Exposure, substrate, preparation, film build, drainage, damage and maintenance all influence service. A universal lifespan should not be assumed.
